This is the 2nd installment of how to get rid of stuff and post it on Freecycle(TM). It is the OHIO method
"Only Handle It Once" is the thought
If it's in your hands, it goes to its final destination.
10 Second Test. Once an object is in your hands, you have 10 seconds to answer the following.
When was the last time you used it? Can't remember- get rid of it.
Does its value justify the space it takes up? Nope- then get rid of it.
Will you have a use for it in the next month? If not- it needs to go.
Why is this here? What the heck is it? Don't know- it needs to go.
If you can't decide within 10 seconds if the object should stay- it's an automatic purge and it goes to Freecycle.
Do not limit the 10 second rule to table tops. Think floor space. Do you really need that old chair? Instead of moving it, there just might be a Freecyle member who would gladly take it off your hands and move it for you. There are members waiting in the wings to pickup your unwanted items.
Next time, we'll continue on with ways to get rid of unwanted items and offer them to Freecycle members.
