Hello
I’m contacting all members of the Poole Freecycle group principally to remind members of the guidelines under which Freecycle operates and then to urge everyone to abide by those guidelines and to behave reasonably and decently to other members.
Very sadly we have again had several instances lately of members who have posted Offers and been contacted by people saying they want the item but, when the member making the Offer confirms they can have it, then all contact suddenly stops and people do not turn up at the arranged time.
Please do not do this - be more considerate of other members. Please read all the details about an item, including any requirements about collection, before you respond. If you think you might want an item please don’t try and get the offerer to reserve it for you unless you are sure you want it. If you’ve made a Wanted post and someone offers it but what they offer is not quite what you’re after please don’t just ignore them but let them know. If you do change your mind at any point please, as a matter of common courtesy, let the person giving the item away know that you no longer want it so that they are not left just hanging and can instead give it to another interested member.
The Freecycle Guidelines to help keep everything running smoothly can be found at https://www.freecycle.org/pages/guidelines. Guideline 7 outlines the Freecycle 'etiquette' - “when you arrange to pick up an item from another Freecycle member, it is basic good manners to accommodate them as much as possible in terms of scheduling, and then be punctual; they are, after all, giving you something you need and asking nothing in return except that you will show up when you say you will”
Can we urge everyone to follow the Guidelines and help to keep our Freecycle group running smoothly and courteously for all members.
Thank you
Best wishes
Your Poole Freecycle moderators
