Manners regarding reselling items

 Dear Freecycle Members,

After speaking with one of my colleagues, please ignore previous two Emails, and read this one.

I am writing to address an important matter concerning the ethical use of items offered within our Freecycle community.

Freecycle is built on the principles of sustainability, generosity, and mutual respect. We aim to create a space where items can find new homes and be reused rather than discarded. It has come to our attention that there may be instances where items offered for free are being taken with the intention of selling them for profit.

While we understand that circumstances vary, we believe it is essential to maintain transparency and uphold the integrity of our community. If you intend to sell an item that you receive through Freecycle, please be upfront and communicate this to the member offering the item. This ensures that all parties are aware and can make informed decisions.

It is also important to consider that by taking an item with the intention of selling it, you might be taking it away from someone who is truly in desperate need of it. Freecycle thrives on the goodwill of our community members, and part of that goodwill is ensuring that items go to those who can benefit most from them.

We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to the following guidelines:

Transparency: If your intention is to sell an item, inform the person offering it before arranging to collect the item.

Respect: Respect the wishes and intentions of those offering items for free.

Community Spirit: Remember that Freecycle is about giving and receiving freely, fostering a spirit of goodwill and sustainability.

Consideration: Think about the potential impact on others who might be in greater need of the item.

By following these guidelines, we can ensure that our community remains a positive and ethical space for everyone involved.

Thank you for your understanding and continued participation in making Freecycle a wonderful resource for us all.

Kind regards,

Clare
