The Houston Freecycle site rules are here to keep things happy and safe for everyone:
KEEP IT FREE, LEGAL, AND FUN FOR ALL AGES!
No alcohol, tobacco, weapons, profanity, sexual content, or any medications (including vitamins and supplements) allowed.
NO ASKING FOR “EVERYTHING”
If you need something, just name it! For example: “queen-sized bed” is perfect. Let’s help each other by making requests clear and easy to understand!
KEEP IT FRIENDLY!
We’re here to share, not argue. No politics, spam, money requests, or mean words—let’s treat everyone with kindness!
NO PERSONAL ADS, PLEASE!
Looking for love? There are lots of great dating sites for that! Here, we focus on sharing free stuff.
NO POSTS ABOUT ANIMALS
Animals deserve special care, so please reach out to local shelters for furry friends. Our focus is on household goods and treasures.
RESALE POSTS
Be honest! If you hope to resell what you’re requesting, simply mention this in your WANTED post. Honesty = happy community!
MIND YOUR MANNERS!
If someone asks for your phone number to arrange pickup, please share it if you’re comfortable—otherwise, you might miss out. Let’s be prompt, polite, and helpful!
DON’T BE A NO SHOW
If you promise to pick something up, please do. If your plans change, let the poster know. Reliability keeps things running smoothly!
KEEP YOUR CONTACT INFO PRIVATE
Don’t post your phone number or email in your post. Use Freecycle’s messaging system and keep your details safe—posts with contact info will be edited.
ON THE CURB POSTINGS
No posting your address and saying, “Come and take it!” Please arrange pickups directly with interested folks through your online messages.
