Tips to get your Offer displayed quickly

Dear Harrow Freecycle members

After you have posted your Offers or Wanteds, and have shown that you comply with Freecycle guidelines, you are then whitelisted which means that your posts should appear quickly without having to be read and approved by a moderator. This is especially useful if you wish to get rid of stuff quickly. However, if you include a "hotword" in a post, the post will then be listed for moderation which might result in it being delayed for hours or even days, depending on how busy the moderator is. Hotwords include hyperlinks. Any link to another website. Instead of showing a picture of an item on another website you should upload your own picture, or a picture you have saved from another website. Hotwords include phone numbers. Since Freecycle does not usually permit phone numbers in posts, the moderator will usually edit out the phone number before approving the post.

Why do we not encourage people to publish their phone numbers? Because (a) you can end up being bothered by people who want the item, who won't take no for an answer and who sometimes continue to bother you after you have given the item to someone else, and (b) it enables spammers and fraudsters to harvest phone numbers and then ring you pretending to be your bank.
