I work w/ a local Scouting America (Boy Scout) troop. We are constantly looking for hardwood (and some softwood) poles that we can use to fashion hiking sticks, spars for practicing lashings, etc. Looking for woods of all types (mainly hickory, ash, maple, hazel, or willow with a 1"-1.5" diameter and a length of at least 5 feet.) Wood for spars could also include: poplar, pine, douglas fir, spruce, or larch (3"-4" in diameter and lengths of 8-20 feet).
