EU & UK Branding Guidelines

FREECYCLE ® and the freecycle.org logo

FREECYCLE ® is a registered trademark in the EU and UK.

The freecycle.org logo   is our trademark and we own the copyright in this logo.

We are proud of Freecycle's history as the pioneer of internet-based re-gifting. We began operating in 2003. Since then, a regifting market has developed which we welcome. As the most experienced and original online provider of regifting services, we organise our Official Groups so that they are evenly spread and give users the best chance of finding new homes for their unwanted items, quickly, locally and efficiently.

To ensure the best experience for users that want to be part of the Freecycle community we moderate our Official Groups to ensure the activities in these groups are safe, legal, only involve the giving and receiving of items for free and comply with our Freecycle Guidelines which you can find here.

Our Official Groups consist of the 5,333 approved local town groups that operate exclusively on our website.

Our trademarks serve as a badge of origin of our services but also help us to protect the public trust in our mission and the users that wish to engage with the Freecycle community.

Any unauthorised use of our trademarks, and/or any word or sign confusingly similar to our trademarks, by communities not operating on our website Official Groups is not permitted.

We carefully protect and use our trademarks to show that they are a badge of origin and to preserve the recognition of our unique services. Here are some of the ways in which we do this:

  • We do not use variations of the word "Freecycle" such as freecycler, freecycling, freecycles.
  • We capitalise the "F" in "Freecycle".
  • We use "Freecycle" as an adjective, not a noun or verb.
  • Where appropriate we use ® after "Freecycle".
  • We include a trademark notice in the footer of every page on our website.
