Wareham Courier: Editor’s notes: Just drop already!

You can get something for nothing

On a completely lighter note, I encourage everyone in town to check out the Wareham Freecycle site. For those of you unfamiliar with Freecycle, the concept is pretty simple. People post items they want to get rid of, and people looking for those items respond. Conversely, people in search of an item can post what they are looking for and see if a fellow Freecycler has what they need. As the name suggests, everything is offered for free, and I know firsthand that you can really get some great stuff at the best price of all – nothing.

Visit http://my.freecycle.org (there is no www.) to sign up for free and then search “Wareham.”

Chicago Now: More Ways for Cheapskates to Help Haiti Earthquake Victims

1. RecycleBank is a Web site that is kind of like Freecycle in that you can get free stuff and offer up stuff you want to give away. One of organizations you can donate to is the International Medical Corps, which is on the ground treating Haiti earthquake victims right now. You need 1,025 points to make a $10 donation to IMC.

Cambridge News: Fight the flab and cut waste

A NETWORK which helps people to share unwanted items and save them from landfill is celebrating its fifth birthday.

Royston Freecycle Group was given a boost ahead of the anniversary by the registration of its 3,000th member.

It has also launched a new initiative to help people to get fit and save waste at the same time, known as “Sportshare”.

This will help match up unwanted fitness and sport equipment to people who find cost a barrier to getting in shape - with all items available free of charge.

Andy Morley, one of the group organisers, said the scheme would help people to stick to New Year’s resolutions to get fit.

He said: “By donating their unwanted sports equipment and clothing through the Royston Freecycle website, members can help other members get into sport, while also helping the environment.

“In short, it helps reduce waste and waists.”

Registration is free at groups.yahoo.comgroup/ roystonrecycle.

Waco Tribune: Hey Waco: Let’s freecycle

There’s an online “freecycling” recycling phenomenon that’s sweeping the country and world — and we’re glad to report in Waco, too — where folks are making use of others’ unwanted items for free.

Honestly, how much better can free be?

The freecycling system relies on the honor system. And so far, it proves to be working, even in today’s economy.
